Paul Wessman served two tours in Vietnam with the 1st Cavalry Division.

In his words, here is a brief description of his time in Vietnam.

"I had two tours with the 1st Cavalry Division 1967 and 1970-71. In 67 I was the Arty Forward Observer with D/1/8 Cav until I was wounded and then AXO, XO with A/2/19 FA out with the infantry units supporting them. In 71 I was the Arty Liaison Officer for 1/7 Cav for almost six moths. In 70 for six months I was with Div Arty Hqs staff and hated every minute of it.

"Eighteen of my 24 months in country I was either in the mud with the grunts or in the forward areas supporting them. Dangerous days. Of course. But, very rewarding and gratifying to me as I was actually out doing what the artillery should be doing. Directly involved in supporting the Infantry."

Thanks for your service, Paul.
